GripEdge Tools: RPT Drivers & Bolt Extractors

GripEdge makes the tools you reach for when a fastener is fighting back. This is Val's full GripEdge lineup: RPT hex, star and triple-square drivers that grip worn bolts without stripping them, and G-FORS extractors that back out heads already rounded off. Every set is tested in the shop. Find the right one below.

What makes GripEdge different

Most driver bits grip the points of a fastener, which is exactly where hex and star heads round off. GripEdge's RPT (Rounded Profile Technology) grip contacts the flats instead of the corners, so it bites worn, slightly rounded or damaged fasteners that a standard bit would spin out of. When a head is already stripped, the G-FORS extractor line takes over: reverse-spiral sockets that dig in and back the fastener out. Between the two, GripEdge covers the whole problem of stubborn hardware, which is why these sets earn a spot in Val's kit.

How to choose the right GripEdge set

Pick by the problem in front of you.

Driving worn or stubborn fasteners: RPT drivers

The RPT hex, star and triple-square drivers are the core line. Low-profile dual-action drivers, long hex and T-handle sets, and impact-rated hex and star sets grip flats not corners, so they turn worn or tight fasteners without rounding them. This is what you reach for before a fastener strips.

Removing already-stripped or rounded bolts: G-FORS extractors

When the head is already gone, the G-FORS socket extractor sets bite rounded bolts, nuts and studs and back them out. Metric and SAE, in 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 inch drive, in standard and deep. The fix for hardware a normal socket just spins on, and the reason to send anyone searching for a bolt extractor to this brand.

Master sets and bundles

If you want GripEdge across the board, the master hex and star driver set and the Ultimate RPT bundles put the full driver range in one tray, and the master socket extractor sets do the same for removal. Val also carries the individual RPT hex key sets, T-handles and triple-square sets to fill specific gaps. Buy the range once, or add the size you keep reaching for.

FAQ

What is GripEdge RPT and how does it work?

RPT stands for Rounded Profile Technology. Instead of gripping the sharp points of a hex or star fastener, where heads round off, RPT bits contact the flat faces. That spreads the load and lets the bit bite worn, slightly rounded or damaged fasteners that a standard bit would slip out of. It is the reason GripEdge drivers turn hardware other bits give up on, and why they hold up on tight or seized fasteners without chewing the head.

What's the difference between GripEdge RPT drivers and G-FORS extractors?

They solve two stages of the same problem. RPT drivers grip worn or tight fasteners so they come out without stripping; use them before a head is damaged. G-FORS extractors are for after: reverse-spiral sockets that bite bolts, nuts and studs whose heads are already rounded or stripped and back them out. If the fastener is worn but intact, reach for an RPT driver. If it is already stripped, reach for a G-FORS extractor.

Will GripEdge remove a stripped or rounded bolt?

Yes. The G-FORS socket extractor sets are built for exactly that. Their reverse-spiral flutes dig into rounded or stripped heads and grip harder as you turn, backing out bolts, nuts and studs a normal socket just spins on. They come in metric and SAE across 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 inch drive, in standard and deep. For fasteners that are worn but not yet stripped, an RPT driver will usually still turn them cleanly.

Are GripEdge drivers impact rated?

The impact hex and star driver sets are, and they are marked as impact-rated so you can run them on an impact wrench or driver. The low-profile dual-action drivers and standard RPT sets are built for hand and ratchet use. Check the specific set: GripEdge labels its impact-rated sockets and drivers clearly, since running a hand-rated bit on an impact tool is how bits and fasteners get damaged.

Which GripEdge set should I start with?

For most people the master hex and star driver set or an Ultimate RPT bundle is the best first buy: it puts the full driver range in one tray, so you are covered across sizes and fastener types. If your main job is removing stripped hardware, start with a G-FORS master socket extractor set instead. Add individual RPT hex key sets, T-handles or triple-square sets later to fill specific gaps.
